How it works
Thoughts are weather. Let them pass.
The Open Sky Method is a free course in how to stop overthinking: replaying the past, and running every what-if about the future. It takes about eight weeks, at a pace you choose.
Eight sessions
There are eight sessions, one at a time. Each is about 40 minutes, spoken by a guide while the words appear on screen. Find somewhere quiet. Headphones help.
- The trap
- The brake
- Watching the sky
- Fixes that feed it
- The great con
- Old files
- Attention is yours
- Nothing to give up
What a session is like
Your guide explains one idea at a time, plainly, the way a good seminar leader would. Every so often they stop and ask you a question. You can tap an answer or say a few words. The guide replies, and the session bends a little around what you’ve said.
You’ll never be asked to write long entries about your worries or dig into painful memories. The course works on how you respond to thoughts, not on what the thoughts are about. Each session also includes short guided practices, like the attention training and watching a trigger drift past.
Every day in between
The days between sessions are where the change happens. Each day there’s one short practice, from two to twelve minutes, plus the Postpone a loop tool whenever a worry grabs you. Short and regular beats long and rare.
Your pace
You choose how long to leave between sessions: every 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 or 14 days. Seven is the default, which makes it an eight-week course. Fewer than 4 days doesn’t leave enough practice in between, so that’s the minimum. The next session opens that many days after you finish one. You can change your pace any time, on the home page or at the end of a session.
The emails
If you’d like, you can sign up at the end of a session for practice emails, at the time you choose: morning, midday or evening. After each session they come daily for the first three days, then every other day. Each one links to that day’s practice and asks one question with three buttons: how many loops did you catch yesterday? When your next session opens, we’ll tell you. If you haven’t started it, we’ll send up to two gentle reminders, and then nothing more until you do. Every email has a one-tap unsubscribe link.
What it isn’t
This is self-help education. It isn’t therapy or medical care, and it doesn’t diagnose or treat any condition. Your guide is an AI, not a person, and it can get things wrong. If you’re in treatment, or you have a history of trauma, psychosis or severe depression, check with your clinician first. If you’re in crisis, contact help now: call or text 988 in the US and Canada, call Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland, or find a free line at findahelpline.com.
